Happy Family, Healthy Mind

Happy Family, Healthy Mind

Happy Family, Healthy Mind

As our nation and our world are facing unprecedented times, for most, life is beginning to test our patience and put pressure on the dynamics of our families. Uncertainty is scary and many of us feel like we have reached our quota of family time and indoor activities. In light of this, we have compiled a list of a couple ideas to try out if you have not already. These are things that we have begun to implement in our home, and a few more that we have added to our to-do list.

Daily Gratitude
In these stressful and uncertain times, many of us are searching for ways to find reassurance and positivity. What better way to put life in perspective than to reflect on the good things each morning before you even start your day. By the end of the day, remaining cheery with an upbeat attitude can be difficult, but by getting our mornings started off right, we definitely have a better chance at accomplishing this.

Non-TV Entertainment
As the days begin to blend together, it is important to keep our minds sharp and our families engaged. Instead of solely resorting to watching TV at the end of the day, try activities that take a little more brain power. Board games, puzzles, coloring sheets and cooking meals together as a family are a great place to start.

Video Chat with Friends & Family
Skype, Google Hangouts, Facetime and Zoom have become treasured friends around this household. Over the last couple of weeks, we have touched base with cousins in Italy, long-lost college friends, family around the United States and even friends right down the street. Technology has been a blessing in the sense that we can continue to feel connected in a time of loneliness.

Stay Active
We are still permitted to go outside for some fresh air, spend time on trails or take walks around the block, as long as we are keeping our distance from one another. Getting outside is so important in times where our freedoms feel limited. Some fun outdoor ideas include having a picnic in your backyard, planting a garden, camping out at home and going for a long drive in the country.

Better Yourself
Quit putting off learning how to sew, starting an online degree or certification, beginning your new workout regime or bettering your cooking skills. Now can be a time of such personal growth if you allow it to be. Think of something that you have always wanted to do, but never had time for, and get after it today!
